Three homestays run in partnership with Pomelo Travel, each hosted by a local family. 100% of profits stay with the host and their community.
Stay with Donny, Sri and their family in a quiet traditional Balinese village, away from the crowds of Canggu, with rice field and volcano views. Each of the two newly renovated rooms has a private bathroom, air conditioning, Wi-Fi and a desk. The local surf beach, family-run restaurants and a village silversmith are all close by.
Pee Tee grew up in this village outside Chiang Mai, and guests rave about her home cooking and Thai cooking lessons. The renovated rooms look out over quiet rice fields, and the temples, markets and mountain trails of Northern Thailand are easy to reach.
Sarom and Kunthea’s home sits over a lotus farm, a short ride from Angkor Wat and Southeast Asia’s largest freshwater lake. Both renovated rooms have a private bathroom, air conditioning and a patio facing the lotus fields. Sarom is happy to show guests around in his tuk-tuk.

An Outpost is a locally owned guest space, usually a private room or suite on your host’s property, steps from their home. You get your own space plus a front-row seat to everyday life, culture and customs that hotels and rentals can’t offer. And 100% of the profits from your stay go to your host and their community.
Most Outposts are separate rooms or small buildings on the host family’s property, not inside their home. Your room is always private and has its own bathroom.
As much or as little as you’d like. Your host will usually check in with you each day to see how you’re doing, and otherwise your space is yours. At many Outposts, sharing a meal with the family at least once is part of the experience; just ask your host what’s possible. If you’re hoping for more connection, let them know. They love sharing their culture, their stories and local know-how.
English may not be your host’s first language, but every Outpost host is confident and eager to communicate with you and answer your questions. A little patience and encouragement go a long way. Try learning a few words of the local language, like hello, thank you or good morning. Hosts love it, and it’s often the start of a great conversation.
Yes! Outposts are very kid-friendly, and families are always welcome. Check each listing for the number of rooms and how many guests it can sleep. Most Outposts can also be booked as a whole, so your family gets every room to yourselves.

You can cancel for free up to 1 to 5 days before check-in, depending on the Outpost. The exact cancellation policy is shown on each listing and at checkout before you book.
Times vary by Outpost and are listed on each booking. Hosts are flexible, so if you’re arriving early or need a later checkout, just ask and they’ll do their best to work with you.
Outposts are family homes, so we ask guests to treat them that way: no pets, no smoking and no parties or events. Some Outposts also have quiet hours, which are listed on each booking.
No, anyone can book an Outpost, and booking directly with us costs less than Airbnb or Booking.com. Members save even more: 20 to 30% off every stay, plus extra perks depending on their membership. See member benefits →
Your member code is in your Flights From Home or Pomelo Travel member email. Enter it at checkout when you book directly through our site, and your discount comes off the nightly rate. Member codes don’t work on Airbnb, Booking.com or other booking sites. Can’t find your code? Email outposts@pomelotravel.com and we’ll send it over.
You can, but booking directly with us is cheaper, and it’s the only way to use your member discount.
Per room. The nightly rate covers the room, not each guest. Check the listing to see how many guests each room sleeps.
There are no cleaning or booking fees. The only addition is local taxes, which vary by country and are shown at checkout before you pay. If you’re a member, your discount comes off the nightly rate before tax, so you save on the tax as well.
When you book directly, prices are in USD and payment goes through our secure booking system. Local taxes are shown at checkout before you pay.
