I flew from Provo to Dallas on Breeze Airways. Here’s what it was like

Recently, I flew Breeze Airways out of the Provo Municipal Airport on my way to Dallas, my first time flying on the budget airline as well as my first time flying out of the Provo Airport

Breeze is a low-cost carrier based out of Utah that began flying in 2021, with service out of the Provo Airport starting in 2022. The airline has been gradually expanding its presence at the Provo Airport by adding new routes, with its latest being a direct flight to the Washington Dulles International Airport. The airline currently has nine routes flying out of Provo (and one route out of the Ogden-Hinckley Airport).

As the Provo Airport has grown in size and popularity, I’ve been wanting to take a flight out of the airport to see what it was like. I had plans to visit Dallas, and Breeze has a direct route to DFW from PVU a couple of times a week, so I decided to book a ticket.

Booking the ticket

When buying my ticket, I purchased the “no flex fare,” which is Breeze’s cheapest ticket option. I bought my ticket in person at the Provo Airport for a discount (you can read more about that here), which cost me $16 for a one-way flight to Dallas. The day before the flight, I paid for a carry-on bag, which cost $30, making the flight a total of $46.

Breeze also sells its “nice bundle” fare, which comes with a carry-on bag, full refund if you cancel the flight, and allows flight changes (it does not come with seat selection). There are also the “nicer” and “nicest” bundles, which are seats with extra legroom with checked bags (one for nicer and two for nicest), priority boarding, seat selection, and more.

Because I got the lowest fare class, I didn’t get seat selection, and I was randomly assigned a seat when checking in for the flight. I got a window seat (my personal favorite). The plane I flew on (Airbus 220-300) had a 2-3 seat configuration, so the chances of getting a window or an aisle seat vs. a middle seat were higher. Breeze also operates flights on E190 and E195 aircraft, which have a 2-2 seat configuration, meaning no middle seats.

If you are flying with children and are worried about being seated together, Breeze does have a family seating policy that guarantees that children 12 years and younger will be seated next to an accompanying adult, even if you haven’t paid for seat selection. You just have to make sure you are all on the same reservation.

Boarding & the flight

The flight departed about 30 minutes late, but I received text and email updates with the new boarding time (the flight also changed gates, and I received a notification for that as well as an announcement in the airport).

The boarding process was smooth, and since I had the lowest ticket fare, I was in the final boarding class. I also had no problem finding space in the overhead bin for my carry-on.

For my seat on the plane, the legroom was a bit tight, but that’s expected on a budget airline. The standard seats on the plane I was on had about 30 inches of legroom. All of the seats had charging ports (including USB-C) but no in-flight entertainment screens and there was wifi available for $8.

Water and coffee were complimentary, but any other drinks, such as soda or juice, had to be purchased, and there were no complimentary snacks. So, if you want a snack or something to drink other than water or coffee, you’ll have to bring it yourself.

Final thoughts

Overall, I enjoyed my flight with Breeze. I consider myself a budget traveler and have flown a couple of low-cost airlines, and I found Breeze to have good service at a great price with no frills.

Being able to get the ticket at a discount was a huge plus, and while no one wants to have to pay extra for a carry-on bag, $30 is on the cheaper side compared to other budget airlines, in my opinion.

The main advice I would have if you plan on flying with Breeze is to make sure you bring your own snacks and drinks (if you want something other than water) and, if you need to, download a movie or a show on your phone or tablet beforehand since there are no entertainment screens.
